It's important to have districts that are representative of the residents, and the re-drawn 27 and 29 districts are reflective of the community.

I've lived in Ann Arbor for more than 34 years and I approve of this districting.

The newly down districts 27 and 29 are more fair and a step in the right direction for our community.

The state is obviously changing demographically, and growing populations do need have appropriate representation. I think districts 27 and 29 indicate forward thinking rather than retropopulation vestiges. Thank you for that consideration.

This map looks more fair to me. Thank you for addressing the issue of partisan fairness! Partisan fairness is more important than having voters contained into one or two counties.

This is drastically better than previous versions. There is no perfect way to do this. But this map to me seems as fair as any that could be created. Districts should be contiguous and not crazy shapes. Splitting cities like Ann Arbor is no different than splitting up rural counties. They both likely divide groups of citizens that have similar concerns and needs. But every division will do that to some extent. Again, this map is way better and seems to me much more fair.

I can't imagine how hard this is. Thank you for doing it. This district looks much more aligned with how I (and other Chelsea-ites) live our life. It isn't perfect because that can't be done but it is definitely an improvement. Thank you.

I think having competitive Senate districts is more important than stretching them. This change to 27 and 29 is an improvement in my book.

The district 27/29 maps make sense for me. I live in western Washtenaw County and I spend as much time in Chelsea, Grass Lake and parts farther west as I do in Ann Arbor for shopping, recreation, healthcare providers, hospital (given the option use the Chelsea Hospital rather than Ann Arbor facilities) my critters' veterinarian and boarding, etc., clearly a "community of interest/lifestyle" by this rather nebulous criteria. I think this is a fairly common situation for many of us in western Washtenaw county. Ann Arbor and the University are great, but there are many fine things we enjoy in the Ann Arbor / Jackson corridor... That said, I believe that the Community of Interest criteria is impossible to quantitatively measure and is therefore inappropriate for an essentially data driven activity of drawing district boundaries. The redistricting commission charter is that sense defective and should have limited its mapping making criteria to compliance with the Voting Rights Act and similar statutes and maximizing the number of competitive districts. There is a very broad community of interest that cuts across political affiliation - wanting your vote to be meaningful and count, thereby reinforcing our democratic institutions. Competitive districts support that and can be measured.

I want to thank the Commission for developing this map which reflects much greater partisan fairness by "unpacking" Washtenaw County.

Please do your best to take any comments that refer to existing COIs or county boundaries with a grain of salt. In this hyper-connected world, existing barriers and boundaries are just that: barriers and boundaries. They cause artificial division and prevent us from moving back to a more bipartisan political environment - the very purpose of this committee and its work. Please take advantage of this opportunity to substantially "shake things up" by merging disparate COIs, townships, and counties into fruitful and diverse groups.

This is a good map for the Tri-cities area! Thank you! It's good to keep Midland and its adjacent townships together with Bay City/County and Saginaw. This will make for a competitive district where a candidate from either party has a possibility of winning if they listen to the voters of the district rather than the current gerrymandered district that we have now. Please keep the district drawn this way as you work towards partisan fairness for the entire state.

These 3 cities are an obvious community of interest who all have industrial based businesses, a shared tri city airport, several shared media outlets, regional colleges and universities, and together we are considered the Great Lakes Bay Area. Map 236: District 1 includes the 3 larger urban areas of Midland, Bay City and Saginaw together in one district. This is VERY good as it reflects that they are communities with shared interests and they will allow the citizens to be properly represented and not be separated out into large rural districts which will dilute or mute the needs and concerns of the more urban and diverse population of the 3 cities. This is a good map for the mid-MI area as it represents the mix and diversity of the citizens within areas that share many of the same economic, educational, environmental, cultural and social issues. Yeah for the People Not the Politicians who choose their representatives.

This is a good map because it keeps Midland with the other urban parts of MidMichigan. Midland is home to 3 Fortune 500 companies, a large cultural center and a large hospital center. Midland is not rural so it should be represented with other urban areas.

Thank you for recognizing Midland as a vital part of the Tri-Cities. Midland needs a representative that knows the needs of a city just as the rural parts of Midland and Bay Counties need a representative that will fight for their needs.

Farmington and Farmington Hills are one community that share history, a school district, library system, community center and senior programs, as well as social, sports and cultural activities. We are the very definition of a COI. Keep us together in one district.

I appreciate the way my district has been drawn, it feels like a fair split of my community and I feel fairly represented in it. I hope that the Detroit area will be reconfigured so that all of my BIPOC friends and neighbors can feel the same about their districts.

I like this Tri-Cities senate district. You have done an excellent job of keeping these three cities together, adding in some of their counties, creating a competitive district in which the candidates running will have to work for our votes before and AFTER the election, corrected a heinous gerrymander from the previous maps, and contributed to the overall political fairness of the entire map. Please keep this district as it is drawn as you move forward.

I certainly support splitting Ann Arbor where many Democratic votes are currently 'wasted' leading to an undemocratic State Senate. It makes sense to divide it North and South so communities along 94 are represented in district 29. I'm less certain about the composition of the southern district 27 and whether it gives enough opportunity to non-white voters to elect a non-white representative. My home location is about equal distant between Ypsilanti and downtown Ann Arbor and we share many of the same community interests. It will be a challenge for this area to engage and share concerns with the residents in Brooklyn, Manchester, and Jerome.

I agree with other commenters that "this map for state senate districts looks to be the fairest one developed, while still maintaining communities of interest as much as possible." This is finally a fair map that divides Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti. This is the best map I have seen that represents the Ann Arbor metro area properly. Those from Ypsilanti will tell you it is a proud city that has gone through a lot, and deserves a map like this one that makes it more central to its district
