I think the cities of Midland and Bay City should be grouped together in a district. I think they have much in common with each other and little with the rural surroundings. It would make for a good representative and competitive district.
Lisa
Why after many, many displeased comments on all the previous maps, have you not corrected these egregious districts that serve to dilute the voices of Pontiac voters and other communities as well? The residents of these communities will not accept the "it's too much work" answer. Commenters from Lake Orion, Oxford, Clarkston, Independence Township, Waterford, Auburn Hills, Bloomfield and Pontiac have all stated that these districts do not preserve COIs and do not represent the communities involved in any way. Fix this!
Sharon Buttry
The Detroit Hamtramck Coalition for Advancing Healthy Environments gave you a map clearly indicating we need a united voice for Hamtramck and East side of Detroit to address environmental justice concerns. District 2 needs to go all the way to Gratiot at the very least.
Cindy Weir
Not a fan of this map. This map does not consider overall partisan fairness! I suggest going back to the Midland and Bay City house district map 241. Map 241 is fair and representative of the area. These 2 cities are closely aligned economically, culturally, and through the arts and school systems. Please continue to improve the maps until the seat shares match the vote shares of the state (54% D / 47% R). Thanks Much!
Marie Johansen
Map 239 District 31 has Midland included in a rural box. District 53 separates Bay City from Midland and also sits in a rural district. By separating these two urban areas which have shared interests culturally, economically, educationally and environmentally, the voices and interests of the citizens are diluted. Midland and Bay City must stay together as a district. Please go back to map 241 as an example of a fair and representative design.
Angie Kelleher
While this district may make sense geographically, it does not add to the overall partisan fairness of the entire map. I suggest going back to the MIdland and Bay City house district. These 2 cities are closely aligned economically, culturally, and through the arts and school systems. Please continue to improve the maps until the seat shares match the vote shares of the state (54% D / 47% R)
Molly Morrissey
This map does not respect the long standing relationship between Midland and Bay City. So many people live in one city and work in the other.
Jim Morrissey
This map can not address the issue of political bias in both Midland and Bay City. You have diluted the urban voter in both of these counties and placed them in rural areas when their population does not dictate such action. The urban voters will not have their voices heard and this will lead to extreme politicians.
Craig Austin
This does not address the political bias issue in the region. Please use the maps that have Bay City and Midland together. This map will not help with extremist influence on Politian's. I think the improved balance will create and support moderate Politian's and prevent them from being held hostage by extreme bases.
Sharon Trumpy
The City of Novi belongs in one district so our representative can speak for our community's interests. Our diverse city and especially AAPI voices are disempowered when we are split up.
Marian MAhoney
Please keep Novi intact. Our northern precincts are very diverse and we have a growing Asian American community - if these are split up their voices will be diluted.
elizabeth mae beaudoin
Keep Novi together. This map limits the impact of our AAPI voters in Novi. Having a couple precincts in a separate district does not make sense.
Jennifer Austin
This district makes sense geographically, and it's not a "bad" district, but if the overall partisan fairness for the state doesn't meet zero political bias and erase the vote efficiency gap, then I suggest you use the Bay City/Midland House district I've seen in several maps. Bay City and Midland are two closely aligned cities and they have been for a long time. Please continue to make the maps better so that the share of possible seats a party can win matches their vote share in the state.
Lisa
Why is the Village of Oxford and Lake Orion in a district with Auburn Hills and Bloomfield Hills? There is no community of interest between these municipalities. They should be in a district with Brandon, Ortonville, Leonard and Romeo.
Tom
Keep Waterford whole!
John
Why are you dividing and combining communities that have historically never been done and are unrelated? This disenfranchises all involved. There have been many comments on this district from both communities. Keep the communities of interest and the local municipalities intact.
Lisa
Put this district as it was originally, keeping Waterford whole and pairing Pontiac w/the Bloomfield Auburn Hills area. Why are you denying both communities their ability to make their voices heard and to advocate with and for their COI? There have been many comments about this; FIX THIS!
Jack Ellis
How about an east to west configuration?
Splitting St Clair Shores?
Community of interest?
“Keep working!”
Thomas Heck
These proposals continue to split Monroe county into 4 districts which makes no sense especially including the city of Taylor into district 40 with the village of Carleton and the Steiner area - no common issues! Also why include Belleville in district 65?
Merlin Steffes
Why is the city Ann arbor split into three different State Representative districts. These districts are not communities of interest. Ann Arbor has 124,000 people. A rep. district is 91,000. Ann Arbor should have 1.36 districts. Stop the gerrymandering.
Heather Hunnell
Thank you for listening to the comments about I-94 communities. I would like this district better if the population between Washtenaw and Jackson were a bit closer. I know that it will not be even, but this district would feel more fair if it was at least a little closer.
