Thank you for taking NE lower MI out of the area with Midland. We have nothing in common with them, very different issues in rural areas. Of the State Senate maps presented, I like this one the bests.
Sue Macrellis
This map splits Jackson County and joins the northern part with the city of Ann Arbor. These two areas are "not alike", as we teach young children when sorting similar and dissimilar objects. Their needs are totally different and the voices of Jackson will be swallowed by those of the big university city.
Theresa Mungioli
Worst map yet for Oakland County. When will you use communities of interest to develop a map?
Robert Dragan
This is a bad State Senate map for the Grand Rapids area. Ottawa CO should be removed from the same district that is shown here with the Ada Township. Areas currently in northeast areas of Kent CO should instead be added to Ada Township.
Margaret Schankler
Please move the prison population to an overpopulated district to address prison gerrymandering.

the Tri Cities make up the Great lakes region! thank you for recognizing that! We are a COI and we need to be in a voting district. Please continue to work on partisan fairness because that is why we fought and worked so hard to pass prop 2! Thank YOU!
Cheryl Lynn Depner
Superior Township need to stay with the rest of Washtenaw County. You cannot fairly represent any constituent within this map. Wayne, Oakland and Washtenaw counties plus the cities and townships do not share any commonalities.

As an independent voter, this is a plan for Midland city and Midland county that I cannot support. Midland city and county should be in the same district. The city and county have the same flood issues and similar interests with the counties to the north and west.
Dr. Hurley Coleman
It is good that this map is drawn to keep the cities of Saginaw, Midland, and Bay City together. I am concerned that Zilwaukee is excluded as well as portions of Bridgeport. As a member of Saginaw African American Pastors (SAAP), our community of interest includes serving parishioners in all of these areas that will be affected collectively by decisions relative to infrastructure investment (water, transportation, and education), as well as the critical economic impact of job loss due to the international impact on the auto industry, and now the semi-conductor world. It is important to keep these communities together, but the resources that encourage the development of people should be paramount. I also agree that the important value of the watershed affects all communities, but feel that we should work as a unit to achieve the highest value of oversight and investment.
Joshua Przygocki
Van Buren and Allegan should be kept whole and together for the Senate as a community of interest. They share many functions of government as well as a large Hispanic population. Both are rural, agriculture and tourism based economies with many similar small towns through the counties. Aside from being a community of interest, together, they fit nicely as about 2/3 of a Senate district and could take in other parts of similar rural or coastal counties. Holland would be a good fit, Barry County would be another. Van Buren and Allegan have much more in common with each other than they do with the "Michiana" border counties.
Margaret Schankler
Please move the prison population in Ionia to an overpopulated district to address prison gerrymandering.

As a Royal Oak resident who travels in the area, these are my routes and places I frequent. I understand Detroiters concerns on diluting their impact. On the other hand, I would like it if we worked together more. I feel that the 8 mile divide and divisiveness by Oakland's former Executive made it toxic. I would like to work together more as a region as things such as transportation, the environment and overall city design needs more cooperation.
Marie Fox
Thank you for keeping the Tri-Cities together in a senate district. They are a clear COI that share economic, cultural, and educational ties. Please continue to improve the maps until the seat shares match the vote shares of the state (54% D / 47% R)
Allison M Wilcox
This is a really good map for the Tri-cities! And by including the townships directly next to Midland, you have made a nicely compact district and put together communities of interest.
jane scott
This map artificially cuts the city of Midland away from our county and watershed neighbors. It will be a massive effort to re-build the dams and lakes which directly flow into and affect the city of Midland. Please keep Midland whole and with our watershed partners who are our true community of interest. Tri City name is no longer valid. Midland and Saginaw have completely different issues to work on. Both communities should have a representative focused on those issues of their constituents and not pulled in ten different directions doing too many things not well.
Cindy Weir
Cool, another acceptable map! Thank You for drawing a state Senate district that includes the cities of Midland, Bay City, and Saginaw… also known as the Tri Cities. These 3 cities are an obvious community of interest who all have industrial based businesses, a shared tri city airport, several shared media outlets, regional colleges and universities, and together we are considered the Great Lakes Bay Area. Please Continue to work on partisan fairness because the outcomes of the map should reflect the political make-up of the state. This will give the voters a more competitive district and a better representative. This is what the voters wanted when they passed Proposal 2.

I reside in Cass County Mi. My family founded and based a small home supply company here over 50 years ago. Since then, our small business has expanded to 7 stores based in Cass, Berrien and St. Joseph counties. Bordering Indiana, the term "Michiana" was created to describe this area of Southwest Michigan. There are unique issues that businesses face bordering another state. The people of Michiana have figured out viable solutions to these complex economic issues, but a split senate district risks adequate representation. The proposed redistricting map splits our small business into two senate districts, creating hurdles and damaging solutions that we have made to ensure our business is successful. Please keep Michiana intact to ensure that our small business is represented.

Thank you for keeping the towns of Midland/Saginaw/Bay City in the same district. Many people live in one city and work in a different one. As municipalities with a industrial bases, we have many similar interests from public policy. I am unconvinced that the floods and watershed make a significant COI. There is more logic to urban versus rural interests when creating a COI. I also urge you to keep districts competitive from a political party perspective if feasible. Thank you for your work.
Dan Holowicki
The Downriver communities from Melvindale in the North to Flat Rock in the south are a strong bond, with unique needs and interests. These communities need fair representation that includes all our communities.
Douglas Floto
At my locale, I have very little in common with the communities encompassed in map 18. It seems to favor rural Republicans over Suburban Democrats and Independents. My community of interest is definitely to the south and east.
Christine A Lyon
I am not in favor of splitting Berrien County into two separate districts. Berrien has always been a representative county on its own; rural and urban, political affiliations, genders and races. Many of the lakeshore communities share similar issues that would best be handled by one official. Berrien County as a whole is home to major routes of transportation and infrastructure, again best suited to be represented by one official. This proposed redistricting would put my residence in one, with my work in another, all within a matter of 20 miles. I would like to see the existing map remain in place, which places Berrien, Cass, and St. Joseph counties as one. We are considered Michiana and should remain as such.
Marie Johansen
Map 242 District 1 includes the 3 larger urban areas of Midland, Bay City and Saginaw together in one district. This is VERY good as it reflects that they are communities with shared interests and they will allow the citizens to be properly represented and not be separated out into large rural districts which will dilute or mute the needs and concerns of the more urban and diverse population of the 3 cities. This is a good map for the mid-MI area.
Angie Kelleher

This area of St. Clair Shores should not be separated from the other part of the city.
Michelle Mormul
Grosse Pointe Park should not be split from the other Grosse Pointes.
Michelle Mormul
Sterling Heights should not be split down the middle
Jim Morrissey
This is a good map because it keeps Midland with the other urban parts of MidMichigan. Midland is home to 3 Fortune 500 companies, a large cultural center and a large hospital center. Midland is not rural so it should be represented with other urban areas.
Molly Morrissey
Thank you for recognizing Midland as a vital part of the Tri-Cities. Midland needs a representative that knows the needs of a city just as the rural parts of Midland and Bay Counties need a representative that will fight for their needs.
Joel Rutherford
This district will only hurt the voters in Warren. I don't understand how this map was created and if the point was to make it as confusing to voters as possible.
We need FAIR MAPS!
Scott Weston Rose
All of the 38 district proposals fail to minimize county breaks as much as possible. There is no reason for a district to overlap 3 counties like this. This is a clear gerrymander. Also, you are diluting the African American representation. Please see my proposal:

I live in Grosse Pointe Park. I strongly oppose this map because it splits Grosse Pointe Park from the other 4 Grosse Pointes and from the rest of the Lake St. Clair lakeshore. The Lake St. Clair lakeshore should remain whole. We have serious issues that need to be addressed, including the dumping of sewage in our lake. The inland communities do not prioritize those issues. We need unified representation.
Christopher Khorey
If the Commission is looking for ways to split up Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti, I like Commissioner Eid and Commissioner Lange's ideas better. This one doesn't really respect any COIs.
Mary O'Neill
As a collector of VPN signatures, this has the lowest efficiency gap which, is what we want for Fair Maps
David Neubauer
I feel this map does not allow for Barry County to have a voice. the people of Kentwood, Grand Rapids and Battle Creek would out weigh our voice. They are not of like community of interest. we would be better lumped in with western Ingham County and parts of southern Ionia County.
Josh Vermaas
Lowest efficiency gap out of the state senate plans.
Jennifer Austin
I like this senate district. The majority of people on the portal have asked for a Tri-Cities senate seat including Midland, Bay City, & Saginaw and I appreciate that the commission has consistently drawn the maps this way. The Tri-Cities are closely aligned, and urban/suburban areas need appropriate representation as well as rural areas need to be grouped together to receive appropriate representation. Please continue to work on these maps and make them as close to zero political bias as possible. The electorate of the state is 53/46 D/R and the possible seat share should reflect that.
Alan Poehl
This map is absurd. In addition to not fixing the Lansing fiasco, this map seriously splits all the way from Marshall through Calhoun, through Jackson, through Washtenaw, just to break up the city of Ann Arbor? How does that satisfy communities of interest? Also, breaking up the Lake Saint Clair district so that northern macomb is with more of detroit? This commissioner needs to re-read the constitution and respect COIs.
Thomas Heck
Still a good proposal for District 28 - Monroe and Lenawee counties + Milan
Robert Dindoffer
I respectfully oppose this map because it breaks up my COI into three pieces. The Lake St. Clair Community of Interest should remain whole. This map splits my home town of Grosse Pointe Park from the Lake St. Clair district and from the other Grosse Pointes. This is completely unnecessary and ruins two communities of interest simultaneously. Moreover, Clay and Ira townships should be included with the rest of the lakeshore. Finally, I have noted that a number of commenters on a similar map expressed concerns that that this configuration splits up important Detroit neighborhoods that want to be together in a community of interest. Although I do not specifically know what the purpose behind this configuration is, the outward appearance is that it treats people and communities as mere statistics and ignore the desire of local communities/people to have representation that reflects their local issues.
Dan Wholihan
There's no real to split part of Unadilla Township, a one precinct township that has nothing in common with Ann Arbor.
Merlin Steffes
Keep the City of Ann arbor in the same State Senate district. Why go all the way to Calhoun County and split the county to form two partisan State Senate districts. Calhoun and Jackson County should be in the same State senate district and Washtenaw in another State Senate district.
