This configuration of District 10 is not my preference for a couple of reasons:
(1) It is not as good as other configurations at maintaining the Lake St. Clair suburbs COI. Other configurations keep it simple with St. Clair Shores and the Grosse Pointes being the essence of the district. That better configuration would result in candidates being required to address protection of the lake and water/sewage infrastructure as a top priority.
(2) Splitting up St. Clair Shores three ways in this configuration is not necessary, if Harper Woods is not included. Or, if only precincts from Harper Woods that are in the Grosse Pointe Schools are included.
This is tough, because either (a) St. Clair Shores is split 3 ways; (b) Harper Woods gets split (or not included); or (c) the Grosse Pointes will be broken-up. I think the option that minimizes the number of communities being broken-up is the best option.
Note - I had advocated for the Grosse Pointes plus Detroit Riverfront District that was ultimately struck down by the Courts. So that is not an option any longer.
